The Chiefs defense is on its way to becoming dominating. Since week 2, our defense is giving up less than 20 points a game. All the more impressive considering how inept our offense has been, which translates to the defense being on the field a ton and having to deal with defending short fields all season. Credit to Romeo Crennel who’s defense appears to be improving every week. The offensive gameplan was solid, but 4 turnovers by the quarterback will never lead to a lot of points. This loss was not on the coaching this week. This team appeared prepared and motivated. The failure was execution on the field.
Tyler Palko F
Did this Pitt graduate and Pittsburgh native secretly want the Steelers to win? With how bad some of those interceptions were, maybe he thought he was wearing black and gold.
Jackie Battle D
The running game overall wasn’t very effective. He definitely didn’t help with 2.2 ypc.
Thomas Jones D+
Is finding more carries as of late. However, he was as ineffective as the other rushers.
Dexter McCluster D+
No fumbles. Still waiting for a big play. For as quick as advertised, I continue to be disappointed when it looks like he does get some space.
Dwayne Bowe B-
He’s taking a lot of heat for not trying to make a play on that last interception. Prompting the lame Cris Collinsworth to call his lack of effort lame. The throw was probably out of reach and even though Bowe threw his hand up looking for a deep ball but then broke his route off, Palko never should have thrown that pass.
Steve Breaston C
Hard to grade these receivers because their success is so dependent on Palko, but he was reliable as always.
Jonathan Baldwin C
Looks like a lot of potential being wasted in a passing offense that is on life support most games.
Leonard Pope D
Caught the only ball thrown his way. No penalties. A career day.
Anthony Becht F
The only play he was a factor in, he essentially tackles Battle preventing him from getting a first down.
Offensive Line C
Protected Palko well, although Steelers appeared to back off the blitzes after Polamalu went out. Couldn’t get anything going in the run game, but the Chiefs became pretty predictable after Palko’s turnover fest.
Defensive Line B
Held Steelers to 3.9 ypc as a team. That always starts with good play up front. Amon Gordon got himself a sack, but no one else seems to ever get into the backfield.
The Steelers couldn’t get a clean block on Derrick Johnson all day. Tamba Hali didn’t get any sacks but caused enough pressure and holding penalties to be a factor. Solid tackling in the open field all game.
Rothlisberger bought all kinds of time to throw the ball in this game, but consistently could not find any targets down field. Covering the likes of Mike Wallace and company on those extended plays is nearly impossible as most teams that play the Steelers have discovered. This unit was in lock down mode all game.
Special Teams B
Succop was solid on his 3 kicks. Return game continues to be a non-factor for a team that is desperate for some points.
