KU stunned by Davidson at Sprint Center, get ready for USC (and links)

So much for the “We are KANSAS City” billboards. The last two games the Jayhawks have played in Kansas City have been losses – 24-10 to Mizzou in football at Arrowhead and a shocking 80-74 loss to Davidson at Sprint Center Monday night.

Davidson jumped out to a 7-0 lead, led by as many as 11 in the first half and never trailed in the second half, overcoming 21 points, 17 rebounds from Thomas Robinson to beat Kansas in Kansas home away from him.

Kansas’ inability to guard the perimeter was killer, as Davidson made 11 three-point shots. And ultimately, you knew it was over when Kansas missed 13 free-throw shots going 18-31 from the charity stripe.

One could look at the stat column the next day and figure out what lead to Kansas’ loss. For one, 6 three-point makes (3 of which came in the final minute), Connor Teahan playing the most minutes and scoring all six of KU’s bench points. When three-point shot doesn’t fall for Kansas, they will be in trouble. To make matters worse, the lack of depth will ultimately shoulder all the scoring to Thomas Robinson, Tyshawn Taylor, and Elijah Johnson. If one of those three have an off night, then things could go bad for the Jayhawks.

Man of the Match: Thomas Robinson. Robinson was able to put up gaudy numbers once again scoring 21 points while being double-teamed all night and grabbing 18 rebounds. For the season is averaging 18.1 points and 12.1 boards for the season. Robinson is tied for second in America in rebounding.
