Royce White and his red mohawk are a surprising 2-0 in the Big 12 Conference.

Team of the Week: Iowa State. The Cyclones had some BAD losses in non-conference play, but were billed with a lot of talent. When five of your top seven players are transfers, it takes a time to mesh, but the Clones appear to be putting it together now, and they are lead by “Rolls” Royce White, who recorded an impressive 10 points, 18 rebounds, 10 assists statline in an impressive win at Texas A&M, 74-50. The win over Texas, 77-71, wasn’t bad either. The Clones have a big week ahead with a home date with Mizzou and a trip to Allen Fieldhouse.

Travis Releford had a monster week for KU, averaing 22 points per game.

Player of the Week: Travis Releford: Releford averaged a Big 12-best 22.0 points for the week, leading the Jayhawks to a 2-0 start in league play with wins over Kansas State (67-49) and at Oklahoma (72-61). The junior swingman opened with career-highs in points (16) and rebounds (11) versus KSU to record his first career double-double and bested it with 28 points at the Sooners. Releford shot 62.5 percent in the two games, including 55.6 percent from 3-point range. He also made 9-of-10 (.900) free throws. He is averaging 11.7 points this season and has recorded double figures in three straight contests.

This marks the second consecutive week that a Jayhawk has held the award and the fourth time (Thomas Robinson x 3) out of nine possible weeks this season.

***

1. Baylor (Last Week 1): Baylor is off to their best start in school history and is up to No. 4 in the country. How much longer will it last? Baylor heads to K-State Tuesday.

2. Kansas LW: 3: Everyone knows Thomas Robinson is the Jayhawks best player and potentially the best in the Big 12. The concerns for Kansas is will the rest of the team do enough to get Kansas wins, because Robinson will get his. Travis Releford filled the void last week, averaging 22 points a game in earning Big 12 Player of the Week, in easily the best week of his career, including his first double-double and established a career-high on Wednesday, followed by another on Saturday.

3. Missouri LW: 2: Missouri’s best start in 30 years came to a screeching halt in an abusing loss when they not only lost, but were exposed, 75-59 at Kansas State. Now the question is this the same old Missouri team who can not win on the road? They havent won in Manhattan since 2004, so a loss there is nothing new. Now they head to Ames Wednesday – the place they recorded their only road win last year. A win will tell tales – especially over an quickly improving Iowa State team. Will Missouri’s weaknesses – lack of size and lack of depth – hurt them in the next 16 games of Big 12 play? You would think so, at least to an extent.

3. Kansas State: LW: 4: What a week for EMAW. Starting their Big 12 season with three Top 15 teams – and two undefeated teams. First was an 18-point loss at Kansas on Wednesday. But they bounced back STRONG against Mizzou, looking as better than ever in a 17-point, 75-59 domination of Missouri. Now K-State, who was seriously looking at a 0-3 start had they lost to Missouri, has a chance to knock off a second undefeated team in three days when they face Baylor Tuesday – in Manhattan. A win there, and watch out.

5. Iowa State: LW: 7: See above, Team of the WeeK

6. Oklahoma LW: 5: Oklahoma lost two games by a combined 50 points and dropped just one spot…They bounced back nicely to their 38-point destruction at Mizzou, leading Kansas at halftime before giving up a 29-6 second half run. For Oklahoma, one disappointing thing is leading scorer Steven Pledger combining to make just seven of his 22 field goal attempts in those contests. Oklahoma travels to Okie State for “Bedlam” tonight.

7. Texas LW: 6: Texas had a BLAH week. They lost at Iowa State 77-71 as league’s top scorer J’Covan Brown left the game with an injury and then beat Oklahoma State 58-49 in a game that no one cares about. Next. P.S. Texas has made the tournament the last 13 years under Rick Barnes, but that could be in jeopardy. The Horns go to Missouri and Kansas State following a home game against Texas A&M Wednesday.

8. Texas A&M: LW: 8: The Aggies are God awful. If this team makes the tournament, its a work of God. If they finish conference at .500, its a minor miracle. The team that received five first place votes in the preseason Big 12 Coaches Poll is showing no signs of life, losing at Baylor in a game their offense no showed and then getting blown out (74-50) AT HOME to Iowa State. The Aggies are certainly the league’s worst disappointing team.

9. Oklahoma State: LW: 9: Okie State WON and stayed the same. I mean, you beat Texas Tech, congrats, and lost at Texas scoring less than 50 points (49). The Cowboys have had two players quit the team and then lost third-leading scorer J.P. Olukemi for the season with an ACL injury. The Cowboys

10. Texas Tech: LW: 10: Texas Tech looked better this week and led Baylor at halftime before falling off. Kansas comes to town on Wednesday and Bill Self has NEVER won in Lubbock and then the Billy Gillispie returns to A&M to face his former team. Hmmm.
