College Football’s Week 9 Marquee Match-ups and Upset Alerts

Another a ho-hum slate of games this week with only one match-up of ranked teams, but if you’re looking for something to watch before or after the Royals game, here are your best options:

Georgia (5-2) vs. 15 Florida (6-1) – Saturday, 2:30, CBS

“The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” is what they call it down south when the Gators and Bulldogs square off in Jacksonville. SEC East title implications are on the line here, but this game doesn’t have quite as much hype with Georgia’s Nick Chubb injured and Florida’s Will Grier suspended. This one has low-scoring slobber-knocker written all over it.

Florida rebounds after the loss to LSU as the Georgia passing game continues to struggle.

Prediction: 23-13 Florida

8 Notre Dame (6-1) at 21 Temple (7-0) – Saturday, 7:00, ABC

Could a team from the American Athletic Conference sneak into the playoff? Memphis, Houston, and Temple are all 7-0. Only one of them can finish the season undefeated. Memphis had a signature win against Ole Miss a couple weeks ago. Temple looks to do the same here in another statement game for the conference in what is Temple’s first-ever game featuring two ranked teams. Notre Dame says, “That’s cute and all, but what about our playoff chances?” The Irish are 6-1 with a huge game at Stanford looming at the end of November. If they win out, Brian Kelly’s bunch will certainly be in the conversation for a Top-4 spot.

As for this week, I expect Temple to have a good showing on the prime time stage, but C.J. Prosise and the Irish ground attack will be too much for the Owls.

Prediction: 31-24 Notre Dame

Upset Alerts

10 Oklahoma State (7-0) at Texas Tech (5-3) – Saturday, 2:30, ESPN

Oklahoma State is unbeaten and climbing up the polls, but I’m not sold on the Cowboys yet. They’ll have to prove themselves against OU, Baylor and TCU to make me a believer. Texas Tech can’t stop a nose bleed on defense, but they’re capable of out-gunning the Pokes. The over/under here is 78.5. Give me the over.

5 Clemson (7-0) at NC State (5-2) – Saturday, 2:30, ESPN2

I voted Clemson number one in our poll this week, so they’ll probably lose. The jinx is real. Just ask Utah, Northwestern, and Florida State. You’re next, Dabo. MUAHAHAHA
