To take his place on the roster, the recently sent down Cheslor Cuthbert will return to the big league club. Cuthbert is expected to arrive with the club around 6pm at Target Field, and until then, Gordon won’t officially be placed on the DL. With the anticipation of his late arrival, due-it-all Whit Merrifield will be in the lineup tonight, playing 3B and hitting second for Mike Moustakas, who is also injured as result of the collision in Sundays matchup in Chicago. Moose is listed as day to day with a knee contusion as a result of the incident. Dyson is in LF tonight in Gordon’s absence. Merrifield, Jarrod Dyson and Paulo Orlando will most likely be shuffling between left and right field going forward, unless an outfielder, such as Rey Fuentes or Brett Eibner.

Sundays injury is yet another setback in an already dissapointing season for Gordon, who has a .650 OPS and 50 strikeouts in 42 games thus far in 2016. Afer signing a $72 million deal in the offseason, he had a cold start to the season and now finds himself out of action possibly until July.
