Dempsey’s hat trick paces USMNT’s 6-0 rout over Cuba

The U.S. Men's National Team, behind Clint Dempsey goals, is going on to the Gold Cup Semifinals for a match with Jamaica, who won Group B over CONCACAF power Costa Rica without their star goalkeeper from Real Madrid, Keylor Navas, and defeated Haiti in the Quarterfinals by a score of 1-0. USMNT defeated Cuba, who only scored only one goal in the full tournament (Guatemala), 6-0. To start the match, Alvarado showed his lack of improvement with a terrible turnover. Bradley later that minute did the same, but Cuba could not capitalize on either. Cuba turned it over on that second possession, the U.S. then went forward, and Dempsey was fouled. Alvarado showed a bit of redemption with good defense and a steal a couple minutes later. In the fourth minute, Chandler got the ball after Zardes couldn't get it and crossed it beautifully to Clint Dempsey, who headed it home from 6 yards to make it 1-0! It was Dempsey's 45th goal for the U.S., 2nd all-time behind Landon Donovan's 56! Three [Read more...]

USA draws with Panama, wins Group A; advances to quarterfinals of Gold Cup

The USMNT is advancing into the 2015 Gold Cup Quarterfinals, winning the group stage with 7 points and a record of 2-0-1 as they drew Panama by a score of 1-1 Monday night at our very own Sporting Park in KCK. The U.S. in this match went once again with a 4-4-2 formation and gave some bench players (Wondolowski, Zardes, and maybe Alvarado and Beckerman) a chance to prove themselves, while giving most of the main players (Dempsey, Altidore, Yedlin, Gonzalez, Diskerud, and Johannsson) a rest for at least most of the match (Gonzalez, Altidore, and Diskerud for all of it) that really didn't mean anything for them because they had already clinched Group A with a win vs Haiti. The environment at Sporting Park was incredible, with the crowd chanting all match long, on the edge of their seats singing "U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-AAAAAA" and chanting "I Believe That We Will Win" much longer and louder than Foxborough, MA and Frisco, TX, showing why Kansas City is considered "Soccer City, USA." Dempsey’s two goals leads USMNT passed Honduras in 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup Opener

FRISCO, Texas -It was a very ugly win, but a win nonetheless. As predicted, the United States Men's Soccer Team pulled out a 2-1 win over Honduras in their first match of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the confederation's main tournament. Early in the match, Honduras put a lot of pressure on the United States and their goalkeeper Brad Guzan, 30-year-old with rumors circulating of leaving Aston Villa for a better chance of starting. Honduras had multiple golden chances early in the match as the U.S. weren't going forward and playing aggressive. After a couple fantastic saves by Guzan - three corners, two free kicks, and some missed chances in the first six minutes for Los Catrachos - the Yanks started to go forward and started getting their offense in it's normal rhythm. The USMNT got a few free kicks and had a couple runs that did not turn into more due to an offside call. Honduras continued to get their offense in as well after the U.S.' chances, but then an offside on Honduras in the [Read more...]
